This is an old blog that used to be known as The All You Can Nate Special: $5 Cover. I haven't done anything with it since 2007, but I'm thinking about getting back into blogging. At this blog, you'll find the random thoughts, political rants, alcohol-induced diatribes, and other musings of a Nebraska-born guy in his mid 20's. And then, you'll go through a time warp and find the ramblings of the same guy who is suddenly in his 30's, married, and a dad. Stranger things have happened.

Some might say that I'm the Man. And those who say so would be right. The reasons are various and sundry, and I don't particularly care to get into them. So I guess you'll just have to trust me. If you want to know more about me, be you a friend, stranger, hypochondriac, or even a narcoleptic, you'll just have to read on.

So, it looks like a new season of Scrubs has begun. That's another good show. My favorite character is that older doctor. I can't remember what his name is, but he was one of the Bobs in Office Space. I also like the gal who plays Eliot, Sarah Chalke. You may recognize her as the "Second (hotter) Becky" from Roseanne.

I've watched way too much television, I know. But I also have an eye for the TV hotties.

Dr. Kelso is pretty funny, too. "I can feel your hatred like a cool spring breeze."

Anyway, it has been a few days since my last post, so I suppose I should give a rundown of what I've been up to. Last Wednesday, we had a bunch of people over to watch the Alamo Bowl. Nebraska beat Michigan 32-28, I'm happy to say. That game turned out to be the most watched football game in the history of ESPN. The cool thing was that no one, with the exception of a few brave Lincoln Journal-Star sports writers, picked us to win. And you should've seen some of the Michigan message boards. Talk about arrogant. It didn't enter their heads that they could possibly lose to "lowly" Nebraska. That's Michigan fans for you, though. Despite the fact that they've only split one NC in the last 50 years, they think they should be playing for it every year. Sort of like some of us Nebraska fans did until the past few seasons, I suppose.

Regardless, it was a great win, and it'll provide an awesome springboard for the Huskers into next season. To paraphrase the Reagan administration, I like to think that this win has begun a new era called "Morning In Nebraska." It'll be a long wait for next season.

Yeah, I'm kind of starting to feel those post-football season blues already. I'm sure they'll really set in after the Rose Bowl. I don't normally like to make a habit out of rooting for Texas, but they are a Big XII team, after all. Plus, I really want USC to lose. I'm so sick of listening to ESPN climactic praise for that team and all but totally endorsing them as the greatest team in the history of athletic competition. Kirk Herbstreit, for instance, would probably have you believe that Pete Carrol was the originally going to lead the invasion of Rome during the second Punic War, but was too busy directing Reggie Bush's single-handed construction of the Great Wall of China. So the job went to Hannibal.

What a fun season this one was to watch.

Oh, I almost forgot. During the bowl game, I drank an entire mini-keg of Coors Light. I received it as a present from my cousin's husband (cousin-in-law?) for Christmas. Why did I do it, you ask? Well, I found that we seemed to play better when I was refilling. In other words, I was taking one for the team. Taking several, actually. Many strange deeds were born of altruism, you know. I will tell you that I was running a little low on pep and vim the next morning, but I remedied that feeling with a double quarter pounder with cheese, some fries, a soda, and a nap at lunch.

New Years was a pretty good time. I started Saturday off with a walk in Pioneer's Park. Due to the time change, I hadn't gone in a long time, so I was glad to go. I brought Bourbon with me. It's about a 6.5-7 mile trip, but the little fella handles in just fine as long as the heat stays below 90 degrees. After that, I lifted weights and got ready to go out that night.

Brad's girlfriend, Beth, made supper for us (Brad, Ted, Kelly, Jeff, and myself, that is), which was excellent. After a stop at the home of one of Ted's friends, we headed down to Brothers for the rest of the evening. It was crowded, but we had a good time. We didn't get a hold of any of the champagne, so we toasted 2006 with tequila. I found myself wondering, though, if that's what Horatio Alger would have done. After Brothers, we headed back to the house, and I think all of us had gone to bed by 2a. Not the craziest New Years I've been a part of, but it was nice to wake up without a hangover. We all had fun, anyway.

Sunday and Monday were full of relaxation and video games, and some lifting of the weights. Ted, Kelly, and I watched Batman Begins. What a great movie. Also, I met up with Dad, Mom, Kirsten, Tom, and Ross for supper at Old Chicago for supper last night. So, there you go. That's what I've been up to.

Not much else is going on. I was back at the office today. Yay. I did win some tickets to the Nebraska-Oklahoma basketball game this weekend, so I'll probably go to that with Dad. I haven't been to a Husker basketball game in a couple years, so it should be fun.

I found some new music that you should check out. It's by a group called Gotan Project. I'd describe the sound as a mixture of electronica and tango flavoured with madness. My favorite song so far is Santa Maria (Del Buen Ayre) off of their La Revencha Del Tango album. You may recognize it as the tune that Quentin/The Carver played when he tortured Sean and Christian on the Nip/Tuck season finale. Check it out.

The New Year can't be complete without resolutions, can it? A few things I've resolved to do this year:

1. Lose about 15 to 20 more pounds and tone up.
2. Rep out (not max out) at least 250 lbs. on the bench press.
3. Write something besides my blog and the stuff I draft for work.
4. Approach all that I do with more confidence.
5. Improve my church attendance.
6. Be a better son/brother/friend/employee/fill-in-the-blank
7. Continue to be awesome, glorious to see, a real thing of beauty, etc.

I'm excited to see what this year holds, both for myself and those I hold dear. I have a feeling this year will be a good one for all of us.
