This is an old blog that used to be known as The All You Can Nate Special: $5 Cover. I haven't done anything with it since 2007, but I'm thinking about getting back into blogging. At this blog, you'll find the random thoughts, political rants, alcohol-induced diatribes, and other musings of a Nebraska-born guy in his mid 20's. And then, you'll go through a time warp and find the ramblings of the same guy who is suddenly in his 30's, married, and a dad. Stranger things have happened.

Some might say that I'm the Man. And those who say so would be right. The reasons are various and sundry, and I don't particularly care to get into them. So I guess you'll just have to trust me. If you want to know more about me, be you a friend, stranger, hypochondriac, or even a narcoleptic, you'll just have to read on.

So, yeah, I was totally serious when I asked for suggestions regarding what I should write about. The gears are still feeling rusty, and I don't want to just rant about stupid crap all the time. Right now I'm just posting whatever random thoughts occur to me. By all means, don't hesitate to post comments. I can take it.

Does anyone out there have any idea how long eggs will keep in the refrigerator? We have some eggs in there that are a week or so past the expiration date, but you can never really depend on that kind of thing. They never really tell you when the stuff will go bad, just when it won't necessarily taste as good. I'm debating whether or not I should hard boil them for my snack, and I don't want to unleash the stench of rotten eggs inside the house. I'd rather not have them go to waste, but I also hate even looking at food that has spoiled. Today I was going to include some honey pepper turkey from the deli in my wrap, but it had gotten slimy over the weekend. Man, did that piss me off. So no turkey for me today. Still, t'was a good wrap. Spicy three pepper hummus, spinach, provolone cheese, raw green beans, and salsa in a whole wheat tortilla. Good stuff.

I haven't figured out what I'm going to do this weekend yet. I'm fairly certain that everyone is going to be gone, so I may go to F-town for the weekend. Then again, I may stick around and see if I can round up some friends to watch the Baylor game at a sports bar or some such thing. This'll be the Huskers' first away game. It could be a close one. Baylor is looking good, especially considering that they're, well, Baylor. It doesn't help that they'll have the home team advantage, and the fact that injuries are hampering many of our players doesn't bode well, either. I still have a good feeling about it, though. Our offense is finally clicking, and our defense is excellent. As long as our guys don't overlook them and play with the same intensity they've shown all season, we will emerge victorious.

Mark my words, if the Huskers continue to improve and we keep bringing in top recruits, it will be lights out. We'll bring a level of destruction unheard of since 1995. The massacres wrought by our team will leave naught behind but the wailing of women and children and the lamentations of the elderly. Most especially at Colorado and K-State because I hate them so very, very much.

I've found myself in a quandry lately as to what my next video game purchase should be. I've narrowed it down to Ultimate Spider-Man and X-Men Legends II. I like RPGs the best of any of the game genres, so I'll probably go with the X-Men game, although maybe I should play the first Legends game before this one. Last year at this time it was an easy call as GTA: San Andreas was released near the end of October. What a glorious game. Its infinite excellence was surpassed only by its addictive qualities. I worked on that game straight through from its release date all the way to Valentine's Day. Actually, now that I think about it, completing all the San Andreas missions marked my best Valentine's Day in years. :) After that, I took a good long break from gaming, other than to play the first Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game. I enjoyed it a lot at first, but suddenly, I got very bored with it. And that was it. Other than the occasional Halo 2 deathmatch with Jason, I don't think I lifted a control during the spring or summer.

Once daylight savings time rolls around, I'm probably going to go ahead and get a gym membership somewhere. I own a weight bench and can do most of my lifting at home, but the streets and parks around here aren't what I'd call sufficiently illuminated for night time running or walking. Plus, I wouldn't mind doing more swimming. I'm pleased with my progress as far as lifting goes, but I think I'm ready to get more intense on the cardio side. I'd like to shed another 10-15 pounds, which would put me in the mid 150's to low 160's, and I'm confident that I can get there by spring if I work at it. I'm not really enthusiastic about having to pay for gym access, though. I may look into getting a part-time job at a gym; I used to be a fitness supervisor at the student weight room in college, so I sort of know the ropes already. I'd rather get paid to exercise than pay to do so.

On a related note, ever notice how expensive good nutrition is? One jar of natural, creamy. salt free jar of peanut butter costs the same for a jar of crunchy, salty, fatty peanut butter that is about three times as big. It's generally the same across the board; if you want to eat healthy, you had better be ready to pay. It's no wonder college students gain the Freshman 15. They can't afford anything nutritious, so they load up on cheap bread, mac'n'cheese, and ramen. It's like subsisting on styrofoam, glue, and salt tablets.

And now, for a lack of anything better, I leave you with another haiku:

Hummus is tasty.
Babaganoush is better.
Beef remains the best.

Don't worry about the eggs. I've used eggs that are months past their expiration date and I didn't get sick.
